A way to find the right glazing business for your job
Replacing one cloudy pane should not mean starting a whole-house window order. Equally, a home with rotten frames needs more than new glass. Double Glazing Quotes helps homeowners explain what they need and reach independent businesses that handle that kind of work.
At double-glazing-quotes.co.uk, one online enquiry can lead to up to four quotations from local installers or glaziers. It is free for homeowners to enquire, and there is no obligation to choose a firm. The number of responses depends on your postcode, the work involved and contractor availability.
What we help you arrange
Our six services cover complete double glazed window replacement, uPVC windows, misted glazing, blown sealed units, damaged glass and double glazed doors. Within those jobs there are plenty of decisions: keeping a timber frame, matching bathroom privacy glass, choosing a casement rather than a sliding sash, or fitting a French doorset with a suitable threshold.
Misted and blown glazing often describe the same edge-seal failure. The first is what you see; the second describes the fault. You do not need to work out which term to use before enquiring. Describe the cloudiness, cracked pane, sticking opener or draught, and the responding firm can investigate.
Where our role ends
We provide a matching service. We do not manufacture glass, supply frames, employ installers or carry out the work. The company you appoint measures the openings, recommends the specification and gives you its own quotation. You agree the contract, payment schedule, fitting arrangements and aftercare with that business.
Glazing companies can pay for customer enquiries through Leads Do Work. That funds the introduction service; it does not oblige a homeowner to buy windows or make a particular firm the best choice for the job.
What to check before appointing someone
Companies joining the network are asked to provide relevant insurance details and references. Ask the firm you are considering for current documents and examples of similar work. A sealed-unit repair, a timber sash replacement and a large aluminium doorset need different experience.
- Ask who will survey and fit the work, and who you contact if a new unit mists or a handle needs adjusting.
- For replacement frames, confirm the frame system, opening style, whole-window energy performance and glass specification.
- For glass-only jobs, check the unit thickness, any safety-glass requirement and whether the existing beads and gaskets can be reused.
- Ask which making-good, waste removal and access arrangements are included.
- Get the guarantee terms for glass, hardware and fitting separately, including exclusions and any insurance backing.
Paperwork should match the actual work
For relevant replacement window and door work in England and Wales, a registered installer may use a competent person scheme; building control is another route. Check the route before ordering. The government guidance on competent person schemes explains how self-certification works. Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate systems.
A glass-only repair does not normally receive the same certificate as a complete window replacement. FENSA explains what its certificates cover. Safety glazing and listed-building restrictions still deserve attention, even for a small repair.
Start with what you can see
You can give a useful description without taking a window apart. Count the affected openings, mention their floor level and say whether the problem is in the glass, frame or lock. Photographs from a safe position help a glazier decide what to look at during the survey. The firm's own measurements should be used for manufacturing.
Send your glazing enquiry when you are ready to compare options. If you fit windows or replace sealed units, our contractor page explains how to browse enquiries for your trade and area.
